What Documents Do You Need to Import a Travel Trailer?

To streamline your import, you’ll typically need:

Travel Trailer Import Process

1. Purchase & Validation
Before buying, always check the seller’s history and ensure no finance or liens are registered
against the trailer. We can assist with title verification and paperwork reviews.

2. Procurement Support (Optional)
Not sure where to start? We can connect you with reliable suppliers across the US and even
assist with the purchase process.

3. Pickup & Export Prep
Our US-based agents collect your trailer and arrange all export documentation. Depending on
the size and port location, your trailer will be prepared for either RORO (Roll-On Roll-Off) or
flat rack/container shipping.

4. Biosecurity Compliance & Treatment
All travel trailers must undergo heat treatment or fumigation before departure to meet MPI
biosecurity requirements, especially for Brown Marmorated Stink Beetle (BMSB) protocols.
We’ll manage this process in full.

5. Shipping to NZ
We coordinate regular departures from key US ports. Our network ensures smooth loading,
handling, and customs clearance in both countries.

6. NZ Compliance & Inspections
Once in NZ, your trailer undergoes inspections including MPI biosecurity, IVS structural
checks, and setup for electrical, gas, and self-containment compliance. We can connect
you with authorised compliance providers.

7. Delivery
Your travel trailer can be delivered directly to your home or compliance centre via specialist
carrier.

Can You Load Extras into the Trailer?

If you’re using containerised or flat rack shipping, you can include personal items inside your
travel trailer. However, RORO shipping strictly prohibits supplementary cargo. Speak with
us before buying to ensure your intended configuration meets MPI and shipping requirements.

Cleaning & Border Security

All trailers must be meticulously cleaned — inside and out — before departure. MPI enforces
strict standards, and failure to meet them can result in delays or extra cleaning charges on
arrival. We ensure compliance through our US depot network.

Heat Treatment & BMSB Protocols

All travel trailers exported from the USA must be treated for Brown Marmorated Stink Beetle
(BMSB). We facilitate heat treatment or fumigation based on port and seasonality. Our team
will confirm which treatment is required for your shipment and manage all bookings and
certificates.

Marine Insurance

We require all imported trailers to be covered by comprehensive marine cargo insurance.
This protects your asset during ocean transit and provides peace of mind from point A to point
B. We’ll include this as part of your tailored shipping plan.

Customs, Duty & GST

We process all necessary paperwork with New Zealand Customs and MPI on your behalf.
If you’re a returning NZ citizen or resident, you may be eligible for GST exemptions on
personal effects — talk to us about your situation.

NZ Depot Release & Final Steps

Whether your trailer arrives via RORO or container, it will be unloaded at an MPI-compliant
facility and inspected for release. Once all clearances are finalised (typically within 3–4 working
days), we’ll coordinate delivery or collection.

For RORO shipments, our team meets you at the port gate to facilitate smooth handover.
